Tasting- The Royal Old Vines Chenin Blanc

Name: The Royal Old Vines Steen Chenin Blanc
Variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
Country: South Africa
Region: Western Cape of South Africa
Year: 2012
Price: $7.95

Wine Critic Review: "One of the greatest buys I have tasted this year is this under $10, 100% Chenin Blanc from the Western Cape. A super flowery-scented nose includes notions of ripe honeydew melons and pears. This medium-weight, fresh, fruity, crisp, dry, textbook Chenin Blanc will provide immense pleasure over the next 12 months."   Robert Parker- 90

My Review: I thought this wine was delicious. This is the first ever Chenin Blanc that I have had and I will be sure to taste more. Everything about the wine was very smooth. I got strong floral scents when I first smelled and then I got a somewhat mineral smell. When I tasted the wine it had everything I was looking for. It had good acidity, but not too much making it extremely smooth. I did taste small hints of pear after swallowing the wine, though I was unable to pinpoint the other actual flavor. This was my favorite wine of the week, and I will be sure to drink more.

I did not taste this wine with food.
