Tasting- Chateau Morrisette Sweet Peach Wine

Name: Chateau Morrisette Sweet Peach Wine
Variety: 100% Peaches
Country: USA
Region: Southwest Virginia
Year: 2013
Price: $10.00

Wine Maker Review: Sweet peach wine made from 100% juicy, ripe peaches. Sweet, rich and smooth, this sultry wine bursts with peach flavor and aroma, illuminated by a subtle spiciness in the long aromatic finish. Serve chilled. Pair with spicy or grilled foods; try over ice with mint! Alcohol 10.5%.
My Review: I really enjoyed this wine, and it was probably my second favorite of the 5 orchard fruit wines that I tasted. The nose made me think of a Georgia orchard, with ripe fresh peaches all over the place. I also liked how in the nose I picked up some cinnamon and allspice flavors, as there is nothing better than that combination in a nice cobbler. The taste didn’t disappoint either. It was very fresh, with nice sweet peach. On the finish, it did transform to have the nice spice that I was expecting from the nose. I was extremely impressed with this wine, and left the winery with a bottle of this as well.

Tasting- Chateau Morrisette Sweet Mountain Apple Wine

Name: Chateau Morrisette Sweet Mountain Apple Wine
Variety: 100% Apple
Country: USA
Region: Southwest Virginia
Year: 2013
Price: $10.00

Wine Maker Review: Our Apple Wine is made from crisp and juicy Virginia apples. Bursting with the vibrant fruitiness of just-picked apples, this wine is sweet and smooth, light bodied, with a clean crisp finish. This wine is perfect with many foods, including pork dishes, game, poultry, barbecue, various cheeses like Cheddar and Gruyere, and assorted nuts. Alcohol 10.5%.
My Review: The apple wine was extremely interesting, as I was expecting something more like a cider. However, this definitely was not like any cider I have ever had. It smelled of a variety of different apples, both sweet and sour. The taste was very crisp and refreshing, with definite hints of both Granny Smith and Red Delicious apple. I liked the mix between sweet and tart, thought there was nothing spectacular about this wine.

Tasting- Chateau Morrisette Farmhouse Sangria

Name: Chateau Morrisette Farmhouse Sangria
Variety: Merlot, Cherry, Orange
Country: USA
Region: Southwest Virginia
Year: 2013
Price: $10.00

Wine Maker Review: Made from delicious red wine, dark sweet cherries, oranges, and limes, this festive Sangria is bursting with abundant, lively fruit aromas. Sweet and smooth, with a mouth-watering juicy character. This Sangria is perfect for any celebration, and will pair well with spicy and grilled foods. Serve chilled or over ice.
My Review: This sangria was very interesting. On the nose, I definitely smelled the red Merlot that was used as a base. It also had a variety of other flavors due to what it has in it, including orange, lime, and cherry. It had the best nose out of the bunch of the fruit wines. The taste was a little off putting, as I thought that the tannin structure was a little high for this type of wine. I was also put off because I am used to sangria being served as very cold, where this one was served at room temperature. It was very refreshing, but I would most likely not return to this in the future.

Tasting- Chateau Morrisette Cherry Wine

Name: Chateau Morrisette Cherry Wine
Variety: 100% Cherry
Country: USA
Region: Southwest Virginia
Year: 2013
Price: $10.00

Wine Maker Review: This pure cherry wine is made from flavorful red pie cherries and juicy dark sweet cherries.  Smooth and sweet, this delicious wine is packed with rich cherry character.  The flavors and aromas linger luxuriously on the palate throughout the long, languid finish. This wine pairs well with spicy grilled meats and is simply amazing with chocolate.  Try drizzled over pound cake for dessert!  Serve lightly chilled.
My Review: Of all the fruit wines that I tried at the winery, this was my least favorite. It was also the newest edition to the Orchard Fruit Wines from Chateau Morrisette. It had a nice aroma, with only cherry coming through. I wasn’t sure whether it was going to be sweet or sour based solely on the nose. It started off very sweet in my mouth, but on the back end I got hints of the sour cherry that I smelled. I also didn’t like it because it had a very long finish, and I did not like the sour cherry flavor remaining in my mouth. Still, not a bad wine.

Tasting- Chateau Morrisette Blackberry Wine

Name: Chateau Morrisette Blackberry Wine
Variety: 100% Blackberry
Country: USA
Region: Southwest Virginia
Year: 2013
Price: $10.00

Wine Maker Review: Not content with only grapes, they have crafted a delicious new fruit wine from summer’s bounty of sun-ripened blackberries. One of life’s simple pleasures here in our little part of paradise. Sweet and smooth, our Blackberry Wine is packed with the vibrant fruitiness of succulent, sun drenched berries. This all-natural wine may contain a harmless sediment. Made from 100% blackberries.
My Review: This is the first fruit wine that I have ever hand, and I was extremely happy with the product that was presented to me. It had a very nice dark berry aroma, with slight hints of cherry. Obviously, there were strong blackberry flavors as well. The wine was probably the smoothest that I have had all semester, making me want to buy a bottle immediately. It was nice and sweet, and tasted like very ripe blackberries picked right off of the vine. I will be sure to be drinking this all summer long, as I bought a case of it before I left the winery.

Tasting- Rosemount Estate Moscato

Name: Rosemount Estate Moscato
Variety: Moscato
Country: Australia
Region: N/A
Year: 2012
Price: $3.95

Wine Shop Review: Clear, medium-lemon yellow in appearance; lovely citrus and honeysuckle aromas with lemon, honeysuckle, apple and ripe yellow plum flavors. Serve with angel food cake or fresh fruit and mild cheeses.
My Review: In my opinion, this was just another typical Moscato. Though the nose was nice with hints of lemon and honeysuckle, I found nothing that separated itself from all of the other Moscato’s that I have smelled. The taste was very sweet as I have become accustomed to, with hints of apple and sweet oranges. The sugar content was too high for my taste, and it did nothing to stand out for me. I would definitely pass on this in the future.
