Wine Expert Review: Aged for two years in a cask, this 2008
Carrascal is a blend of 40% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. It
has a rustic blackberry, scorched earth and leather-scented bouquet with
touches of pressed flowers. The palate is well-balanced with crisp tannins,
expressive black tarry fruit and a Bordeaux-like finish. Drink not-2016.
My Review: I thought that this wine was very interesting.
When I first smelled it I thought for sure that it was going to be hot, and
have an extremely earthy smell. I got a strong leather nose like that of
leather boots that have been on a farm. However, the taste was completely
different than what I expected. It had a nice oak component, but contained nice
delicate fruit and flowery flavors. I thought it was extremely crisp for a red
wine. Though the tannins were a little high for my liking, I would like try
this wine again in 2 years.
I did not taste this wine with food.
