Tasting- Lam Jar Sweet Wine

Name: Lam Jar Sweet Wine
Variety: Muscat
Country: South Africa
Region: N/A
Year: 2011
Price: $8.95

Wine Shop Review: Soft floral hints add depth to the otherwise straightforward ripe peach and nectarine aromas. There’s a good balance in the mouth, with a nice acidic lift and slightly lime edge to cut the sweetness on the finish and close with the faintest hint of honeydew melons.
My Review: This wine had an extremely sweet nose with definite hints of peach and mint. I immediately identified it as a Moscato. It was extremely sweet but had an interesting acid that tasted like lime to help cut it. I thought the sugar content was a little high for my tastes. I thought this was just like any other Moscato I have ever had.

Tasting- Entrada Malbec

Name: Entrada Malbec
Variety: Malbec
Country: Chile
Region: N/A
Year: 2012
Price: $5.95

Wine Shop Review: Firm and structured, this is a solid wine, laced with mineral acidity and tight tannins. It has a juicy, blackberry fruit component cutting through the texture.
My Review: I immediately smelled this wine and thought that something was off balance. Though the % of alcohol was only 13% it seemed much higher. It also had a very mineral and tight nose, not wanting to give much up. I definitely thought that it had high acid for red wine which was refreshing, with low tannin levels. I got slight hints of blueberry and nice fruit flavors that resembled blackberries. Just an average wine.

Tasting- Vina Borga Borsao

Name:
Vina Borga Borsao
Variety: 100% Grenache
Country: Spain
Region:  Campo de Borja
Year: 2012
Price: $6.95

Wine Shop Review: Also made from 100% Grenache, the 2012 Vina Borgia was fermented and aged in stainless steel. Its medium dark ruby color is followed by abundant notes of strawberries and black cherries offered in a straightforward, medium-bodied, soft, and hedonistic, round style. It is hard to believe a wine this good can sell for $7 a bottle. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.
My Review: I found this wine to be extremely interesting. It had a huge nose with black cherry and strawberry bombs. It was extremely fruity, which is nice coming from a red wine. Maybe it is because it is aged in stainless steel. It had a nice tannin level that wasn’t too strong, was slightly earthy, but seem to be a touch hot to me. Overall, the fruit levels in this wine really sold me on it. Good wine.

Tasting- Peter Lehmann Chardonnay

Name: Peter Lehmann Chardonnay
Variety: Chardonnay
Country: Australia
Region: N/A
Year: 2010
Price: Sale $9.95

Wine Shop Review: This 2010 Chardonnay presents subtle notes of spiced apple slices and ripe peaches with hints of freshly baked bread and melon. Light bodied, clean and refreshingly crisp in the mouth, it offers just enough apple pear flavor concentration, finishing with medium-long persistence. Drink it now to 2014.
My Review: I really enjoyed this chardonnay. I really liked the nose on this wine because I am a big fan of both apple and pear, and that is what immediately came through. It also had a slight yeasty smell like that of bread that hasn’t been baked yet. I thought the wine was nice and light with crisp smooth flavors. I also particularly enjoyed the finish because it was nice and long and allowed for me to really savor all of the flavors in it. I really liked this Chardonnay.

Tasting- Protocolo Vino de la Tierra de Castilla

Name:  Protocolo Vino de la Tierra de Castilla
Variety: Mainly Airen, part Macabeo
Country: Spain
Region: N/A
Year: 2012
Price: $6.95

Wine Shop Review: Greenish Gold. Subtle aromas of mint, lemon, and orange, with a hint of honeysuckle. Dry, understated and focused, offering clean citrus and melon flavors and slow-building sweetness. Finishes dry and brisk, with an echo of lemon. As usual, this is an outstanding value.
My Review: When I first smelled it I immediately got both of those flavors coming through, with hints of white flowers. I also thought I smelled some slight citrus rind in it. On the palate, it had some nice honeysuckle and melon flavors. I thought it was nice with a sweet smooth finish. It definitely finished with citrus and dryness. Not a bad white wine.

Tasting- R Wines Eco.Love Riesling

Name: R Wines Eco.Love Riesling
Variety: Riesling
Country: New Zealand
Region: South Island
Year: 2009
Price: $7.95

Wine Shop Review: Our South Island Riesling has a range and combination of flavors unlike any other. These flavors span citrus, root ginger, white peach, spices and florals. Eco.love Riesling is made in balance to an off-dry style. Food Pairing: Asian Fusion, Seafood, Curry or anything else that may be spicy in nature.
My Review: Wow. This wine was extremely funky. I did not like to smell of it at all. It contained a combination of ginger, urine, B.O., and petrol. It was extremely funk smelling. And, unsurprisingly, it tasted exactly how it smelled. I thought that the wine was absolutely terrible because of all of the different flavors that were there. It was more on the dry side, but still had some slight sugars in it. This wine may be better with a spicy food, but I will never know because I will never drink this wine again.
